Millie’s Achilles flares up

R1: [16] Tinne Gilis (BEL) 3-0 Millie Tomlinson (ENG)  11-5 retired (7m)

Always sad to see a player in pain. And today, from the first rally, it was obvious that English Millie Tomlinson was not moving as freely as she would have liked. I remember looking at her legs trying to see if she had a taping of any sort.

And at the end of the first game, Millie came up the stairs to let the ref know that she was conceding due to injury. Tinne went immediately to the corner of her opponent, and a pretty emotional Millie explained to us that she had had that recurrent problem in her Achilles tendon since the COVID started.

We wish her a truly speedy recovery. Truly and utterly.

This is not the way you want to win. I was expecting a big battle. I haven’t played Millie for a long time, I have never beaten her.

I train with her sometimes because we are both based in Nottingham. We both know each other and it is always so tough mentally playing her because her game doesn’t really suit me. I was ready for a big battle but I didn’t know she was injured. I wish her a speedy recovery and I hope she is okay.

I just want to spend some more time on the glass court. I haven’t played on it for a while, so more time would be great!
