R1: Sabrina Sobhy (Usa) 3-0 [wc] Malak Fathy (Egy) 11-2, 11-0, 11-3 (20m)
Sabrina Sobhy beats wildcard Malak Fathy to set up a class with top seed Nour El Sherbini.
Sabrina:
“It’s always exciting because I have definitely been in her position before,”
“Any opportunity to get on a glass court and play against a higher ranked player at that young age is always going to be engraved in her memory, I hope so at least. I can understand the nerves and she’s from Black Ball and the home crowd always adds excitement – I hope she enjoyed it out there.
“I played Sherbini not too long ago in the last Black Ball a few months ago and obviously, there’s no pressure on me so that’s always an advantage in my opinion. I enjoy those matches, you can relax a bit and you’re not so anxious, I’m always looking forward to any opportunity to play a top ranked player and in this case the World No.1.
“Everything on court she does is inspiring and note worthy.”
