R2: Rowan dominates Danielle in 3

[8] Rowan Elaraby (EGY) 3-0 Danielle Letourneau (CAN) 11-4, 11-4, 11-7 (26m)

Rowan had a good record against Danielle, 2/0, with their last encounter being a quick 3/0 in the last British Open. And today looked to be a bit the same, Rowan very much in control, and Danielle a bit passive.

Finally, at the end of the second, the Canadian had a “that’s enough” throwing of the racquet and came back fiery, using the anger she feels outside the court at the moment, as things are not going the way she would like at the moment, to step up the pace.

It took a few rallies for Rowan to adapt to the change of energy from the Canadian, 7/7, and she finally prevails 11/7 in the third.

I have an off court anger at the moment, and I was trying so hard to keep calm in the first two games than I became passive. I was not doing anything with the ball, and she is too good to not take advantage of it.*

So in the third game it’s ok, let’s try to get fired up, I did for a few points, and then I was completely lost focus with what I normally do or wanted to do. I just didn’t feel myself at all on court today, or this week for that matter. So it’s definitely frustrating.

“I’m happy with my performance, I made sure I was fired up and warmed up really well, so I could play my best from the beginning.

“I think the match was fair and we both played well until the middle of the second game. There was some tension and I didn’t know where it came from, she kept talking with the ref and to me. I’m not really happy with how it ended, but let’s take the positives and I’m happy I’m through to the next round.”
