R3: Hania returns to the Quarters

R3:   [4] Hania El Hammamy (Egy) 3-0 [9/16] Joshna Chinappa (Ind) 11-6, 11-5, 11-6 (32m)

Hania El Hammamy breezes into the quarters with a 3-0 win over Joshna Chinappa …

If on her first match, Hania was all over the place, her squash brain not really connected to any basic game plan, today, we had, like for Joelle the match before, a complete different player on court.

Calm, contained, only one “COME ON” the whole match and that was in the third 7/3 up, rarely looking at her camp (coach and mum), Hania was focused, and had a different question for every answer Joshna was provided.

On a personal note, I never saw Joshna keeping rallies that long and running so much (KIDDING)! The world number 11 played a patient, accurate squash today, reading her young opponent’s game pretty well, and positioning herself pretty close right behind her, very quick to react. Experience, experience.

It was great to see those battle on there, intense, fast pace, fair, clean match. And they worked harder than the score says, just the last game for 11/6 was 12m.

More of those please.

Joshna: Yes, incredible that we never played. Obviously, I watch her over the last year or so of course but I never actually played her.

I thought that today she played really well, it was a solid play, and I don’t think she did anything wrong, she didn’t make any errors. She was very on point and it was very hard to make through.

I run a lot but she was just very good…

Hania: “I think I’m much more pleased with myself today than I was the first round,”

“It took me a lot of effort in order to be able to come here and perform this way. I think I was unstable in the first round mentally and I worked really hard last night to prepare myself and be ready for today’s match.

“I try to relax myself as much as I can and find other stuff to take my mind off the pressure of the tournament and it worked.

“Joelle is a great player, talented and very physical as well. I think tomorrow’s match will be really interesting and I’m really looking forward to it.”
