On the first night of Round Two, at the end of the second game, Wild Card Omar Ozzam, needing a bit of a rest probably, showed his leg to the ref, where there was a bit of blood.
“It’s only a graze” commented the official, “I’m happy with that”, you have only two minutes between games” – as he already warned the youngster about time wasting.
And our Momenator Tarek Momen, who has played 542 matches in his PSA career, to ask as he back comes on court “so do we have 2 minutes between games?”
God love him. [the 2 minute interval for PSA was introduced in 1994]
NADINE GOES FOR A NEW LOOK
In my report about Nadine Shahin’s first match, I mentioned that she changed not only her game, her attitude but also her outfits! Well, apparently, we have Sana Ibrahim to thank for the transformation!
From being dressed with whatever she could put her hands on to looking stunningly fashionable, it’s been a fun mutation for the Egyptian…
“To be honest, I never cared about what I was wearing on court” smiled Nadine, “the only thing that mattered to me was I wanted to win.
“Well Sana Ibrahim, my best mate on the Tour, and we share rooms in every event, every hotel, and I could see her buying squash clothes. And she was saying ‘look that skirt is so beautiful, it would suit you, why don’t you try it?’ And she opened my eyes…
“I want to try this, I thought, I want to try new stuff, that I’m happy with. Sana is like my little sister, but she was the one showing me things. After all, everybody is buying lovely clothes, like Nada Abbas, I love her outfit by the way. And I thought ‘why not me’? I’m enjoying my squash, why not enjoying my outfits as well and wear whatever I want…
TWO BEST MATES SUPPORT TWO OPPONENTS
Best mates Tesni Evans and Tinne Gilis were enjoying the first match of the R2 day, their friend Joelle King was first on court. But they kept watching the next match, each supporting opposed players.
Tesni was supporting Joel – the Welsh Connection – and Tinne Paul – for those who just came back from the Moon, Tinne’s older sister Nele is engaged to Paul…
