2020 Quarters REPORTS

QF: Nour Solid, Coline made her mark

[4] Nour El Sherbini (EGY) 3-0 Coline Aumard (FRA) 11-8, 11-5, 11-9 (27m)

Even if the outcome was not a true suspense, I was personally impressed with the way the French number 2 took the game to Nour today. Stepping up the court as soon as she could, runing a heck of a lot, finding her targets at the front quite nicely, it was a good match for the French, who came back from 10/5 to 9/10 in the 3rd!

Little anecdote: As Nour was coming into the club, the stairs were very slippery with the heavy rain. She slipped and if it hadn’t been for the strong catch of Philippe Signoret, French National Coach, the Egyptian might have seriously injured herself. “You saved my life,” she repeated to Philippe at the end of the match…

I’m happy with the way I played today, I took my chances when the opportunity was there. I respect Nour immensely, I think she is one of the players I respect the most, but I didn’t get on court beaten. I am happy I was able to express myself today.

I thought that she was not as fast as normal to get to the front but my aim was to stay away from her volleying as much as possible, and that allowed me to build a few rallies and open a few chances.

Coline has been playing really well this tournament and has taken out two of the top Egyptian players. I was just trying to play my game and she has was just coming back strong every game, so I’m really pleased to be in the semi-finals.

Raneem and Nour are two top Egyptians playing each other and I’m sure it’s going to be another tough one for them to play in the quarters and it will be tough tomorrow.
