2020 Men's Gold Reports REPORTS

R1: ElSherbini suffers as Gawad goes through

R1: [3] Karim Abdel Gawad (Egy) 3-0 Mohamed ElSherbini (Egy)  12-10, 11-2, 11-5 (28m)

Mohamed can play soooo much better than that. He has had a tough few years that boy I tell you! After graduating at 23, he joined PSA only to have a very terrible car accident that damaged his arm terribly, had multiple surgeries and was told he would never play squash again.

He stayed off the game for 2 years, came back, but since February, he’s been injured, couldn’t play Manchester as his leg injury was bother him, then he was ready and fit for the Egyptian Open, but got positive to COVID, and was so looking forward to play, to play well, to perform, but after he started the match, the pain started again, and he just couldn’t push on the leg at all.

“I want to play so much, I love the game, I just want to be on court, enjoying my squash. This is not an easy moment for me….”

All our thoughts to you dear Mohamed, IsA you’ll get better soon, with a name like El Shebini, what could stop  you…

I know Mohamed very well.  We train together and we used to play with each other when we were young. I know how good he is and I wasn’t expecting the match to go that easy. Of course after the first game he had some issues and I wish him good luck with the recovery.

It’s very important to win the tournament, these days with the change of the system for the rankings and the points – each tournament counts, it’s important for me to focus on each tournament. I was unlucky with an injury to miss a couple of tournaments – I’m pleased to be back and back on court playing. I want to play my best squash, I don’t think too much about rankings now, I just enjoy the moment of being on court.

I’m fresh and enjoying being on court.
