2020 Round TWO REPORTS

R2: Nada scalps Joshna …

Nada Abbas (EGY) 3-1 [10] Joshna Chinappa (IND)  11-4, 11-9, 11-13, 11-8 (49m)

Not the most fluid of matches for their first ever encounter of the PSA with a few lets and decisions, a few of them overturned as well, which didn’t help the fluidity….

The experienced Joshna couldn’t contain the young Egyptian in game one, 11/4 in 7m but was close the whole way in the second, 2/2, 4/4, 6/4, 6/6, 7/7, and even 8/9. But youth gets it again, 11/9 in a long 12m game.

The third is 17m long with Joshn digging her hills in, coming back from 1/5 down, superb tough and high paced rallies, game ball 10/7. It’s Nada’s turn to dig in, forcing a decider, 10/10. But we are reminded she just turned senior when she tins the last two shots of the game, 13/11. Still she made 10 winners in that game alone, for 7 for Joshna.

In the last game, Joshna will just give away too many points, from 4/3, three unforced and quick errors, which gave the young contender confidence in her game. 7/7, 8/8, and finally closing down 11/8, 10m last game…

I’m very happy to win this match. Joshna is a very experienced player, I had to be focused from the beginning until the end because I knew that if I gave her a chance she would get back into the match and grow in confidence.

I’ve been playing really well this season, but there are some mistakes I always do in these types of matches, so I always try to learn from those mistakes. When she won the third game, I just told myself to focus on the other game and not let her win, play point by point and not give her any cheap points.
