Day ONE : Round ONE

Four Egyptians lead the way to Round Two

The Women’s Black Ball Squash Open 2019 got under way today with eight first round matches.

It was a great start for the hosts as Egyptians won the first four matches (two of them all-Egyptian, to be fair). Yathreb Adel scraped past Mayar Hany, Rowan Elaraby finally beat Annie Au at the fifth attempt, Hania El Hammamy confirmed her potential against wildcard Salma Youssef , and Black Ball’s own Salma Hany kept her winning record, with some difficulty, against Nele Gils.

Then it was the turn of players of four other nationalities to complete the last sixteen – Tesni Evans came from 3-8 in the fifth to deny Mariam Metwally, Joshna Chinappa made Nicol David’s first Black Ball tournament her last, Joey Chan edged out Millie Tomlinson and Alison Waters accelerated away against Zeina Mickawy.
