Hana and Farida produce the Day One upsets as Rachael survives
The CIB Black Ball Women’s Squash Open – second edition – kicked off today in Cairo with sixteen first round matches on two courts at the Black Ball Squash Club.
Today’s winners go through to meet the top sixteen seeds in Round Two, and before some late withdrawals those seeds were the top sixteen in the world.
There were five Egyptian winners today, Farida Mohamed and Hana Ramadan producing the only seeding upsets ad they beat Lisa Aitken and Mariam Metwally, both in five games.
Wildcard Nour Aboulmakarim came so close, holding two matchballs for a three-nil win over Rachael Grinham before the 2007 world champion rallied to win in five, and Zeina Mickawy came from two games down to deny Rachael Arnold.
