Quarters : Tayeb takes out defending champ Welily

Upsets continue at Black Ball

Quarter-finals day in a wet and windy Cairo, with four exciting matches at the Black Ball Sporting Club this evening – there was Egyptian interest in all four matches, and three home players will be in the semi-finals – which feature the 4th, 5th, 7th and 9th seeds!

Hania El Hammamy continued her sparkling run with a four-game defeat of Amanda Sobhy, and she’ll meet England’s Sarah-Jane Perry who despatched Nada Abbas in straight games.

World Champion Nour El Sherbini eased through against Coline Aumard, but she won’t face a repeat of last year’s final tomorrow after Nour El Tayeb downed defending champion and world number one Raneem ElWelily in five thrilling games.
