2023 Quarter-Finals

Second seeds beaten on Quarter-Finals Day in Cairo

Quarter-finals Day at the Black Ball Club saw the second seeds in both events defeated – Amanda Sobhy dashed the hopes of Nour El Sherbini in five tense games, while Mohamed ElShorbagy got the better of world champion Ali Farag in three games.

A third upset came as Joel Makin won his second successive 90-minute match to advance, while Tarek Momen survived eight match balls before beating Fares Dessouky. Diego Elias kept his bid to become World#1 alive, while Nouran Gohar, Joelle King and Hania El Hammamy advanced to the women’s semis.
