Of course, an opening party, it’s about thanking the Sponsors, and welcoming the Players, who on this occasion, were just back from Chicago, and could spell “Jetlag” in a few languages I’m sure…
I wish people who don’t know our Tour could see our players, how lovely, beautiful, witty and clever they are off court. Yes, on court, they can be ruthless, but their charm and sense of humour come across so nicely in these occasions.
The party was supposed to start at 7pm, but this is Egypt, of COURSE it didn’t start on time. People arrived little by little, which was actually perfect for our Steve Cubbins to be able to catch them on the red carpet!
Raneem El Welily, our world number one and last year champion, spoke for the Players, stressing how grateful they are to the sponsors for raising the prize money from 100K to 180K in a year, followed by the wildcard Nour Aboulmakarim who confessed she was both excited and scared to perform in such a big event, bless her little black number!
Actually, Nour gets to play of the legend of the game, Australian former world number one, world champion and numerous time British Open Champion Rachael Grinham, who lived in Cairo for years, based in Heliopolis, and who will get to visit Black Ball for the first time ever tomorrow!
