2024 Reports Round One

R1: Hana Moataz 3-1 Nour Aboulmakarim

Hana Moataz (EGY) 3-1 Nour Aboulmakarim (EGY) 11-3, 11-8, 9-11, 11-6 (42m)

To be honest, I had the impression of watching two junior players on there today. I’ve seen Nour play some superb squash, focused and accurate, but I hadn’t seen Hana for a long time. Today, maybe a bit of lack of variety in Nour’s game – too much hard hitting….

Still Hana was a bit all over the place I thought, two many quick errors, rallies were short, and a few too many discussions with the ref from both players. Still, Hana kept her head and eventually managed to close the 4th game.

Hana

We are good friends, today, I was just very frustrated with myself, nothing to do with her. Just me! I wasn’t playing my best, I wasn’t really getting the best of length.

I was playing better in the first two games I felt, in the last two, it got very messy and chaotic. I should have been able to contain her and absorb her power better. That would have frustrated her a bit to get a few errors out of her. Yes, more patience and less easy errors.

When I’m in Egypt, I’m training with Abdel Rahman Sergany, and then I go to Florida with Wael El Hindi, I started working with him this season, and I feel very comfortable with that set  up. I was very lucky Wael was able to come for this one, it’s good to have him around.
