The 2024 Mountain View Black Ball Squash Open got under way today with sixteen Round One matches on two courts at the Black Ball Sporting club, with today’s winners moving through to play the seeded players in Round Two.
Malik downs Mosaad as Egyptians dominate Day One
There was just one seeding upset in the men’s matches, as England’s Curtis Malik ousted Black Ball’s own Omar Mosaad in five games having had match balls in the third.
Elsewhere there were four Egyptian winners, but the most dramatic end came as France’s Gregoire Marche beat Karim El Hammamy, who injured himself at 10-10 in the fourth.
The women’s matched produced seven Egyptian winners, the only exception being France’s Melissa Alves, with the only seeding upset coming as Salma Eltayeb downed Nadine Shahin in straight games.
